School Infrastructure and Midday Meal

Though there are several factors that contribute to the universalization of enrolment and retention in addition to quality of education imparted in the schools. It has been felt that the school environment, its facilities and additional supplementary benefits like the Mid Day Meal (MDM) play a crucial role in motivating a child to be attracted to the school system. It is found to be an issue of self-esteem, facilitation of learning and also the basic requirements for a growing child. Yet in our country, especially in West Bengal, there are inadequacies on the basic minimum requirements provided in the schools and poor implementation of national schemes like MDM having negative impact in the level of participation of children in the schools. Lack of basic infrastructure facilities continues to be a serious concern for the growth of primary education in the state.
